Coconut Water Weight Loss – Can This Really Work?
Coconut water is an isotonic drink comprising all the electrolytes the body needs in order to function and hydrate itself. This is why it serves so well as a sports drink and a great everyday drink.
But are there coconut water weight loss benefits?
First, I’d like to state that you are asking the wrong question. You should be worried about fat-loss, not weight-loss. I honestly don’t care how much you weigh. It’s your bodyfat percentage that matters! Anyone can starve themselves and not drink any water and lose plenty of weight. But is that healthy or sustainable? NO! Putting yourself on that type of diet will cause your body to fight back by preserving its fat stores, making you give up and overeat, or eventually killing you.
So let’s focus on fat, not weight. And the way to remove fat is not by starving yourself – quite the contrary, actually – it is to eat the right foods.
There are several problems with the “Western Diet” that are killing us:
One is the overabundance of processed foods with too many additives and not enough real nutritional value. The second is an awful proportion of omega-3:omega-6 fatty acids. We are naturally supposed to get a 1:1 through 1:4 ratio of omega-3:omega-6 fatty acids, but in the west, we get 1:20 through 1:30, leading to a horrible amount of inflammation and disease. The third is an unnatural skew towards carbohydrate-heavy foods – especially refined carbohydrates with no nutrients such as sugar and sweeteners like high-fructose corn syrup.
It is this third problem that we are going to explore when looking at how coconut water benefits weight loss and fat-loss.
Insulin is a hormone, or chemical messenger that is natural in our bodies. It is needed to perform duties in deliverying nutrients to your liver, muscle, and fat cells. This is a good thing – but like everything else in life, too much of a good thing can be very bad.
Insulin is secreted by your pancreas in high amounts when you ingest high amounts of sugars – especially fructose-based sugars. Too much sugar in your bloodstream is toxic, so your body needs to get it out of there. What does it do with it? It calls on insulin to store it as fat! Over the course of time, eating too much carbohydrate-heavy foods (even fruit!) will cause your fat cells to swell as insulin keeps putting this hazardous sugar in them – thus making you fat.
So it’s not fat that makes you fat – it’s sugar. But when you’re loaded with sugar… basically everything will make you fat – a horrible, downward spiral.
With fructose, or fruit sugar, the situtation is even more dire because a far greater amount of insulin is pumped by the chemical reactions in your pancreas and liver when they see fructose. Fructose and glucose have different chemical structures, and they create different responses. And when you eat something containing high fructose corn syrup, you’re getting a literally lethal dose of fat-storing types of sugar and insulin.
And yes, coconut water does contain sugar. But the good news is that it’s not that heavy in sugar – far less than fruit juice and soda – and is a great replacement. It’s especially healthy to drink in the morning as an electrolyte replenishment, and you’ll have the rest of the day to drop your insulin levels so that you’re not storing fat at night.
So put that soda down, don’t touch that apple juice – and get a nutritious coconut water each morning to lower your sugar levels but keep electrolytes high!
Paleo Diet with Coconut Water as an Effective Weight Reducing Diet
We are firm believers in the paleo diet, which is a natural foods diet based upon what our ancestors were able to eat before agriculture came along and started killing us with high-carbohydrate, grain-infested diets. Paleo diets, also commonly known as “caveman diets”, consist of any food that a hunter-gatherer could have pulled out of the ground (and cooked on fire if necessary!) or killed. It includes fish, beef, colorful vegetables and leaves, chicken/fowl, nuts, eggs, seeds, olives, avocados, coconuts, and seasonal fruits.
Coconut water is definitely included in the paleo diet. This paleo diet is a unique dietary plan that is formulated by Nature’s insight acting over evolution and natural selection. It is based upon all-encompassing scientific studies investigating the kinds and amounts of foods our ancient ancestors ate. This is far different from the usual low-fat, high-carbohydrate diets that are very unhealthy for humans, as explained above.
Paleo diets utilizing coconut water also involve staying away from fake foods such as trans fats (anything using the word “hydrogenated”), vegetable oils (which are NOT from vegetables), corn oil, soybean oils, and canola oil.
While this diet plan is “lower carb”, it is not a zero-carb diet. There are plenty of carbs to be had from the coconut water, vegetables, nuts, and seasonal fruits. This is, however, a delicious, vegetable-powered, high-fat, high-protein diet.
In addition to the food, the water in coconut water aids in maintaining the metabolic activities of our body. It prevents dehydration from occurring. Several studies have confirmed that coconut water is considered second to natural water in its natural form making it as good and as clean as natural water.
In the meantime, the protein can function as an appetite suppressant, assisting you to eat fewer calories and reduce weight.
Coconut Water Weight Loss Benefits
Coconut water is rich vitamin C, with 10 percent of the RDA in a single cup. It is evident in a studydone at Arizona State University that people with increased levels of vitamin C were thinner and had a lower BMI and fewer fats in their blood. Vitamin C is important for the production of carnitine, a hormone that transmits energy to each cell in the body. Low levels of carnitine will cause your body to hoard fat instead of consuming it as energy.
It is an effective weight reducing product since it does not contain high amounts of sugar unlike other beverages like sodas and juices.
Coconut Water Diets for health are often advised by several physicians. This is also intended for patients suffering from thyroid problems because coconut water assists in promoting healthy thyroid function, which in turn helps in losing weight.
So what are you waiting for? Get fit. Eat Healthy. Include Coconut water in your daily diet of vegetables, meats, fish, nuts, eggs, and natural foods!
